The photographs were intended for publication in the annual reports made to the Secretary of the Interior by the governors of the territories, superintendents of parks, and heads of various institutions, offices, and bureaus. In this era, many of the District of Columbia's institutions, such as the Columbia School for the Deaf and Dumb (Galludet College) were under the supervision of the Patents and Miscellaneous Division of the Office of the Secretary of the Interior. Included in the series are construction work and completed buildings at government institutions in the District of columbia; landscapes at Sequoia, General Grant, Yosemite, Grand Canyon, and Yellowstone National Parks; views of communities and agricultural scenes in Arizona, Oklahoma, and California; public buildings, schools and institutions, bridges, irrigation works, and other improvements in Arizona, Oklahoma, the Imperial Valley of California, and Honolulu; forestry and mining operations in Arizona, Oklahoma, and Tennessee; Native Americans and their handcrafts and education in Arizona and Oklahoma; mineral formations within Wind and Crystal Caves, South Dakota; rush scenes in Oklahoma; and, exhibits at the Milwaukee Public Museum, ca. 1930.
