I've Been Publishing On Gaza And Didn't Get a Second Glance at the Border (I'm White British)

I went back home from New York to see my family. It was really cute and I went snorkeling in England which was very global warming of me.

In London a lawyer I know explained that right now technically it's illegal for anybody, including a US citizen, to enter the US if they have worked with the International Criminal Court (ICC—not the cricket guys). There is no way in heaven or hell they could enforce this—it's meant to scare thousands and to give ICE an excuse to yoink people they don't like the look of out of the nation.

Based on my experience, the same is true of the legal gymnastics they used to arrest Mahmoud Kahlil and keep him in detention while his baby was born. ICE can clap you in irons and try really hard to throw away the key if you are encouraging the people of New York City to consider their complicity in killing children in Gaza, especially if you teach. But they'll only do it to some of us and they'll decide by looking at your face.

Fox News on Jun 16, 2025: "DHS targets have nothing to do with an individual's skin color. What makes someone a target is if they are in the United States illegally." Bollocks: I have a Green Card and plenty of people like me are in jail right now. I'm not even good on paper: My parents were born in two different African nations; I have family in various locations in the Middle East; I've been publishing writing about people living and dying in Gaza. But I'm a white citizen of the United Kingdom and, I think, detaining me would have been productive only if the real project were NOT to put people of color in fear for their lives and freedom. But it is, so they didn't. Just thought you should know! X
